If you’re reading our blog, you have my heartfelt thanks.
For 20 years I’ve supported my son as he’s lived with anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation (suicidal thoughts). Supporting a suicide attempt survivor is challenging, exhausting, and scary. We have good days and bad, scary days and days of hope. It’s not easy - but it’s worth it!
This is our story - sometimes easy, sometimes raw, and always real. A peek behind the mask, if you will.
There were few resources when we began our journey – we did not have the internet at our fingertips. There was little support, and a lot of stigma.
Twenty years later there are more support options due to the internet and a better awareness of mental health. However, while the stigma has lessened, it’s still strong.
If you’re on a similar journey, you have my prayers. If you’re walking beside someone on their journey or watching from the sidelines, I hope you find something here that helps you cope, maybe something that sheds a little light in the darkness. It’s not an easy journey. But let me assure you – you are not alone.
I am not formally trained in psychology or counseling; I am self-educated, with no qualifications or experience to treat anyone. With this blog, I offer my lived experience.
If you, yourself, are are living past suicide, my prayer is that you find the strength to keep going - one more minute, one more day, one more year. You are valuable. You are important. You are wanted. Please stay.
If you get nothing else from this blog, I hope you walk away knowing you are not alone. There are others fighting a similar fight, walking a similar path.
If you need assistance, please contact someone who is trained to help! There are resources available to you - many at no cost. Click on the Resources tab for a few.
If you find value in our blog, we’d love your feedback.
Thank you and God bless.
